Mobile CRO: Designing for Small Screens
Mobile First is Not Optional
Over 60% of traffic comes from mobile. Learn how to optimize your mobile layout to prevent friction and boost conversions.
1. Thumb-Friendly Navigation
Keep your most important buttons (like Add to Cart and Checkout) fixed at the bottom of the screen. Don't make users stretch their fingers to the top.
2. Simplify Mobile Forms
Typing on a small screen is hard. Use autofill, remove non-essential fields, and trigger the correct keyboard (e.g., number pad for phone numbers and zip codes).
3. Tap Target Sizes
Make sure all buttons, links, and form fields are at least 44x44 pixels. If elements are too close together, users will "fat-finger" the wrong link and get frustrated.
4. Lightning Fast Loading
Mobile users are often on slower 4G/3G networks. Compress images, defer off-screen content, and optimize your Largest Contentful Paint (LCP) specifically for mobile devices.
